Visiting Fellowships - Information

The Visting Fellowship Programme is an opportunity to live and study in an inspiring setting in Tasmania. There are two primary objectives to the programme: first, to contribute in some way to the lives of residents; and second, to have the time and place to further your own project.

The college provides free board and lodging, with dining rights and all utilities, for the visitor and the visitor's family. The Visiting Fellow is expected to attend formal dinners and to give members of college an opportunity to develop or enrich themselves in his or her area of expertise. This may be done though seminars, lectures, discussion groups etc. Visiting Fellows are asked to acknowledge the college in any publication or exhibition arising from their time in residence. Beyond this, nothing is expected except that the visitor live among us as a friendly and approachable practitioner of his or her discipline.

It is generally expected, though not obligatory, that your fellowship includes some involvement with a relevant university department. Such arrangements should be developed directly with the department and included in your application.

Accommodation

Accommodation is a fully self-contained flat (a living room and two bedrooms, one of which can be used as a study) with views of the River Derwent. Meals are available in the dining hall, but the flat contains a kitchenette where the visitor may prepare meals if they wish.

Travel expenses

The college cannot assist with travel expenses, but may support and advise appointees in applying for grants for this purpose. The college may also liaise with individuals and departments of the University with whom the appointee has interests in common.

Applications

Applications for visiting fellowships up to three months are accepted at any time during the year. Applicants should send a brief summary of their intended project and a curriculum vitae to the Principal via secretary@jane.utas.edu.au.
